About me

Janet Betts
Having qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1997 I began my career in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I worked for 15 years in a busy primary care setting helping clients with a wide range of acute and chronic problems. My passion for working with persistent pain increased as I joined the private sector and understood the importance of the story of pain that came with each client.

Fundamental to my practice is the understanding that for us all, physical and mental health are interdependent. My personal experience of life and it’s difficulties means I understand the complexities of physical and mental health. I know how hard it can be to reach out when we most need to and I understand how rewarding the result can be. I feel passionate about my work, respect its challenges, and admire the courage of clients as they start out on the journey to understand their pain experience.

My experience and qualifications

I have completed many courses over the years including a Postgraduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy through Bradford University and several post graduate courses in the area of pain, mental health and trauma. I am a highly experienced physiotherapy-led Pilates instructor and often use Pilates-based exercise in my work. I am trained in motivational interviewing and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). As part of my ongoing professional development, I participate in regular clinical supervision and mentorship sessions and am committed to lifelong learning.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am a member of the Physiotherapy Pain Association (PPA), Chartered Physiotherapists in Mental Health (CPMH), and a member of the Physiotherapy Eating Disorder Professional Network.

The process may feel challenging and it does take time, but with the right support, we each have a huge potential to change and move beyond our pain experience.
